Congratulations to our Grace King Band and Orchestra students who swept the LMEA District VI Large Ensemble Assessment Performance today at Chalmette High School in Chalmette, Louisiana. Under the direction of Mr. Ronald Totora, the band and the select orchestra members played the following selections: Valdres March, Music of the Water, and Emperata Overture. All four judges gave the performance an overall rating of Superior, a first for our musical program and an honor that doesn’t happen very often. While enroute to the performance, Mr. Totora mentioned to his students that the highest praise a judge may give is to simply stop judging and simply listen to the performance. One of the judges did just that, and kudos to our band and director for this accomplishment.
Although overcome with emotion at being awarded the Sweepstakes honor, the members of our musical program will now begin preparation to participate in the Regional-State Assessment. The Regional-State event will be held at Nicholls State University on April 25, 2017.
